What Happens During an Animal Wellness Exam?
If this is your first visit, we recommend you bring any medical documents you have for your animal. We ask if they are sterilized, and if they are not, we can schedule a spay or neuter procedure. Our staff members also gather information to create your pet’s records at our practice for future reference.
During a wellness visit, we usually:
- Take your animal’s temperature
- Weigh them
- Check their heart and respiration functions
- Check the condition of their coat and skin
- Examine their eyes, ears, lymph nodes, and the rest of their body
- Inspect their gate for any sign of limp or imbalance
- Palpate their abdomen to assess any sign of trouble in internal organs
- Ask questions about their living arrangements, diet, and behavior
We can also perform screenings and make recommendations for specific treatments, including dental care, or additional tests. Our in-house diagnostic equipment makes screenings and lab work convenient for you and your animal. Our team can also create a wellness plan to support your pet’s health that could include steps like animal nutritional counseling to optimize their diet.
